چکیده
We present a photometric study of the newly discovered eclipsing intermediate polar J183221.56-162724.25 (in short J1832) with an orbital period 8.87 h. The system features box-like deep eclipse full width at 50% depth 1970 ± 2 s and large-amplitude coherent pulsation Pobs = 65.18 min, which represents either synodic (beat) or spin white dwarf (WD). ratio is Pspin/Porb 0.1091 0.1225, respectively. eclipsed light originates almost entirely from two accretion spots columns on WD, characteristics indicative pole flipping. There no evidence for disk, we identify J1832 as first deeply stream-fed polar. Our grizy photometry in yielded i-band AB magnitude Roche-lobe-filling secondary star 18.98(3), extinction EB − V 0.54 0.17, spectral type ∼K6. Dynamic models, fitting photometry, limit distance to between 1270 2500 pc masses star, M2, 0.16 1.0 M⊙, well within Gaia EDR3 confidence limits. Employing luminosity selection inspired by binary population studies yields mean M2 0.32 M⊙ 2σ upper 0.60 d 1596 1980 pc. located its Hertzsprung-Russell diagram Teff, 4120 K log(L2/L⊙) 0.92, where can evolve into ultracompact highly magnetic primary. displays variable rate, lapses repeatedly short-lived low states negligible accretion, currently that decreases timescale τ ∼ 3 × 105 yr. X-ray observations, optical spectroscopy, spectropolarimetry have high potential properties individual object general.

Photometric observations of V597 Pup made in 2008, 9.1 mag below maximum, 4 months after eruption, showed no certain orbital modulation but exhibited a quintuplet of oscillations centred on a period 261.9 s and uniform splitting at a frequency ∼ 2.68 h. One year later the system had fallen in brightness by a further 2.5 mag, showed deep eclipses with a period of 2.6687 h, and the 261.9 s modula...
متن کاملStream-fed Accretion in Intermediate Polars
I review the observational evidence for stream-fed accretion in intermediate polars. Recent work on the discless system V2400 Oph confirms the pole-flipping model of stream-fed accretion, but this applies only to a minority of the flow. The bulk of the flow is in the form of blobs circling the white dwarf, a state which might have been a precursor to disc formation in other IPs. I also discuss ...
متن کاملThe X - ray stream - eclipsing polar RX J 1802 . 1 + 1804
We present X-ray and optical data of the newly discovered AM Her variable RX J1802.1+1804. This X-ray source was observed in the ROSAT All-Sky-Survey in September 1990 and subsequently discovered as a highly variable and soft X-ray source. Follow-up pointed observations confirmed the strong variability and revealed a periodic flux modulation including a sharp and nearly complete eclipse of the ...
متن کاملThe Stream Cipher Polar Bear
We propose a new stream cipher called “Polar Bear”. It combines constructions used successfully in other situations. The key initialization uses Rijndael, the steady state uses a dynamic table as in RC4 and we guarantee a long period through the use of a linear feedback shiftregister. The efficiency for short messages is better than that of RC4 while for long messages Polar Bear is about a fact...
متن کاملDissecting the donor star in the eclipsing polar HU Aquarii
Medium-resolution spectroscopic observations with full phase coverage of the eclipsing polar HU Aqr are presented. Na i absorption and Ca ii emission lines are used to trace the secondary star. While the Na i lines seem to have contributions from both hemispheres of the donor star, the Ca ii lines were found to originate from the irradiated part of its surface alone. An irradiation model was ap...
